The Columbia Global Emerging Scholars Fellowship Program awards year long fellowships to support displaced scholars through a Columbia Global Center. Fellows receive hosting and workspace at a Global Center, a stipend, mentorship from Columbia faculty, a small research or travel fund, training support such as academic writing, access to online courses, integration into Global Center activities, and inclusion in an alumni network. The programme prioritises supporting scholars while keeping them rooted in their host regions. The 2026-27 cohort applications are open until March 19.
Eligibility
Must be forcibly displaced or hold refugee status Humanities or humanistic social sciences focus, with displaced PhD holders preferred, and limited exceptions possible for near PhD pathways Must be based in the region of the Center applied to, Sub Saharan Africa for Nairobi, Middle East or North Africa for Amman, Latin America or the Caribbean for Santiago At least intermediate English proficiency Highest degree obtained within the last 12 years, with possible exceptions Minimum in person requirement of six months if full year in person is not feasible
