Opportunity overview
The Lightcone Research Fellowship brings together a small interdisciplinary group of early-career researchers to apply AI agents to their own scientific projects. Fellows work with the team’s scientists and developers, receive model credits and compare research practices with peers. The remote programme runs from December 2026 to February 2027 and ends with a Paris summit. It focuses on rigorous, understandable and reproducible research, with projects aiming for publication by spring 2027.
Who can apply
Remote programme; final summit in Paris. The current call states no nationality or residence condition; supervisor agreement and computing access are required.
Early-career researchers from any discipline need a specific project suited to using AI agents, with clearly defined work that can be ready for publication by spring 2027. Existing projects and nearly finished analyses are welcome. Applicants need access to their required computing resources and agreement from a PI or supervisor. Participants must be able to commit to the programme, use Lightcone tools for at least one scientific analysis intended for publication, join weekly cohort calls and give feedback on experimental tools. The project must allow experimentation; graduation or other critical deadlines should not depend on its success. The application asks about availability throughout the programme and attendance at the Paris summit. The current call does not state a nationality or residence condition; the programme is remote and does not promise a general living stipend.
