Opportunity overview
The RIPE Fellowship helps new participants from the RIPE NCC service region build a learning path and join the Internet technical community. It combines coaching, public-speaking training and participation in a RIPE Meeting. Fellows select a relevant track, such as routing, Internet governance, security, IPv6 or Internet measurements. The programme includes preparation before the meeting, participation during it and a follow-up stage. Tickets, travel and accommodation are supported, subject to the provider’s stated participation and reimbursement limitations.
Who can apply
Residents of RIPE NCC service-region countries only; meetings in Lithuania or Spain. Malaysia is outside the eligible residence region.
Applicants must be at least 18, live in the RIPE NCC service region, and study or work directly in Internet technical coordination or operations. General IT, software development or broader digital work alone does not qualify. Complete RIPE 101 and pass its quiz before receiving the application invitation. A technical background is recommended but not always essential for the selected learning path. Returning RIPE fellows need ongoing community engagement, at least one year since their last fellowship and a new or updated learning path; prior regional fellows must meet any additional criteria. Commit to a learning path, three mandatory coach sessions, group training, the entire meeting and fellowship activities, feedback and a mandatory final mentor session. Visa issues may prevent in-person attendance; programme access can continue. High-risk locations or unavailable embassies may limit support. Extra travel for visa processing may not be fully covered, and residents of countries where reimbursements cannot be processed may need to fund their visa and part of travel. Eligible residence is defined by the current provider country/RIR table.
